We wanted to let parents know that a permission slip is going home today with all students in grades 3-8. This permission slip will allow your child to take home their school issued Chromebook.
If it is not signed tomorrow parents may come to the school, with the signed form, to pick up the computer which will be sent home with a charger. Office hours will be 8:00 am - 4:00 pm.
The computer will only log into our school system firewalls as well as our student security system, Go Guardian. Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA) requirements will continue to be met. We will still get immediate as well as daily reports on those students that try and access prohibited content.
We also have ordered 100 more Kajeet Hotspots that should be here in a couple of weeks. These ramp up security even tighter, but will allow those households without internet to have access.
In order to take advantage of this ability to provide distance learning you and your child must sign the permission slip.
Students will have an opportunity to connect with their teachers visually through Zoom, Go Guardian, and/or Google Classroom. All students will be able be to access our normal sites such as Google Classroom, Achieve 3000/Smarty Ants, NextGen Math, Illuminate, Readworks, Reflex Math, Khan Academy, Prodigy, Flipgrid, and Scootpad.
This is an exciting time for technology in our school. This is going to allow our students access that they previously have not had when at home. Out of serious and worrisome issues we must look at some of the positives that may arise. One of those positives will be the advancement of the use of technology in our community.
If there are any questions regarding technology please email either Stuart Packard, Superintendent spackard@buttonwillowschool.com or Assistant Superintendent/Principal Hiedi Witcher hwitcher@buttonwillowschool.com
